Zakir Nagar in Okhla is a busy place. Its market in the narrow by-lanes and eateries are hot destination for not only local residents but also outsiders, who turn up to banish their hunger pangs. The place is fast emerging as a favourite for students from Jamia Millia Islamia and other foodies.
And it is only in the night that several of its eateries come alive with foodies turning up in large number to relish haleem, kebabs, kulfi or momos and others. Even at night time the shops and stalls are overcrowded with youngsters. “This place is fast turning into foodies’ paradise. After returning from work we march towards our favourite eateries where we meet with friends and hang around. Over delicacies several things official and unofficial are discussed,” said Nazre Alam, digital marketing expert.
Though he resides in Shaheen Bagh, he travels to Zakir Nagar, which in the day is chock-a-block with visitors and shoppers. Reaching eateries located in the narrow lanes of this deprived locality at time can be an arduous task with huge traffic jams on and off. But all this has not stopped foodies to travel to Zakir Nagar.
“I thought of exploring this food street and the experience was completely out of world. The wafting flavours are enticing and my taste buds sensed some amazing cuisine here,” Aniket Jamwal, a visitor, told HT.
With a population of 3.5 lakhs people, Zakir Nagar is densely populated that at times even walking on the road is difficult.
