Jamia Millia Islamia alumnus Kunwar Rafi has succeeded in scooping a BJP ticket from Zakir Nagar Ward number 100S.
A member of Delhi Minority Morcha, Rafi studied at Jamia School and after passing 10th in 1996, he did a course in computer hardware.
Thirty-seven-year-old Rafi is resident of Muradi Road in Batla House. “My family has been living in the locality for the last 38 years. I run my computer business in Nehru Place and am also social worker,” he told OT.COM.
The BJP has declared its first list and it is expected to declare candidates list for other Okhla wards soon as nominations are expected to end on April 3 with election for the MCDs to be held on April 23.
Rafi is up against two-time councillor Shoeb Danish, also a Jamia alumnus and AAP candidate Mahmood Ahmed.
It is understood that following the Congress and BJP announcing their first list now chances are high that AIMIM will also announce its list. Several local leaders are in the line to get AIMIM ticket.
Moroever, Mahmood today with other AAP candidates took out a rally to file their nomination papers. The AAP candidates have been campaigning in the locality to drum up support for the last many days as the AAP was the first party to announce its candidates list.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also visited Okhla on Saturday to address rallies in support of its candidates.
