A first year student at Delhi University’s Zakir Hussain College, who was walking to college, was attacked by a sharp object around 3 pm on Thursday as she reached Nehru Vihar in Timarpur, according to reports.
A youth most probably a robber slashed the DU student with ‘blade’, injuring her. She got 38 stitches.
Another report pointed out that the girl got injuries as the youth could be making a bid to snatch her bag.
“It appears to be the work of a thief who may have tried to slash her bag to rob it,” said Jatin Narwal, DCP (north). Initially, when the incident surfaced there was suspicion that the youth could be a stalker. However, this was ruled out later on.
“A youth in his early 20s approached me from behind and attacked my waist with a sharp object. He ran away immediately after that,” reported Hindustan Time quoting the girl.
As she was bleeding some passersby who gathered there called police.
“I received a long cut on my waist and was given 38 stitches. But now I am recovering,” said the girl who is now back to his home after getting treatment from the hospital.
“We have string clues about his identity and hope to arrest him soon,” Narwal said.
Police suspect that the accused in an attempt to steal her bag, ended up stabbing her, reported PTI.
