Body of woman found on road between Jamia and Holy Family: What do we know till now?

It was on January 24 when words spread in the locality about body of a woman being found on the road between Jamia Millia Islamia and Holy Family Hospital. Following which there were curiosity in the locality about the identity of the body. Till now very little is known.

The only thing people know is that after the body was spotted by a passerby in the bush, according to a national daily report, police were informed about the incident that arrived on the spot to begin the probe. It is understood that Jamia officials too reached the spot.

A PTI report pointed out that a call was received at 10:24 am that a woman’s body was lying near Jamia’s Sport Complex, said a senior police officer.

There were abrasion marks on her neck that suggest she could have been strangulated, he said, adding that the woman was fully clothed and prima facie, it looks that she wasn’t sexually assaulted, said the report.

“The woman was aged between 20 and 22 and was 5-ft tall. She was wearing gold chain and a black thread in neck. There were three rings on her fingers,” he said.

The spot where the body was found was inspected by the crime team and FSL team.

The body was shifted to AIIMS mortuary and preserved and a murder case has been registered at New Friends Colony police station, said the report. A reporter of a TV channel who had visited the spot said the girl had tattoo on her hand.

“It appears that she was throttled. There are scratch marks on her arms and neck as well which show that she fought the attacker. The cause of death, however, will be clear once the postmortem is done,” a senior police officer said, reported HT.

“It does not appear that she was sexually assaulted, however, we cannot comment on it right now,” an investigator said.
