Reports have been doing the rounds online that WhatsApp that is extremely popular among Indians, including Okhla residents, was down for over 30 minutes on Friday afternoon with messages being stuck and the world stopped for many.
According to India Today report, WhatsApp suffered an outage around 2.15pm India time. But the outage didn’t last long as it was resolved around 2.45 when WhatsApp started working again. However, many residents didn’t realize. And as the report surfaced, an Okhla-based start-up entrepreneur Tanzeel Ahmad shared an interesting message going on WhatsApp in which another resident was found asking: Has WhatsApp stopped?
Another resident put this information on the social media, asking other users whether they too are facing problem with WhatsApp. “Everything is fine. My message is coming and I faced no problem,” said another resident, who is regular WhatsApp user.
A Reuters report notes that as WhatsApp went down, thousands of people reported about it on social media. “Whatsappdown was the top trending item on Twitter in India, which is WhatsApp biggest market with about 200 million of its billion-plus users. It was also a top trending item on Twitter in Pakistan, Britain, Germany and many other countries,” mentioned the news agency.
Following which a Facebook spokesperson in Singapore said the company was investigating the reports of WhatsApp outage. It was 2014 that Facebook had bought WhatsApp.
This is not for the first time that users have faced such problems. In May and August to it was down for brief duration. Interestingly, WhatsApp has never offered a proper explanation of problem behind the outage.
“Our service is experiencing a problem right now. We are working on it and hope to restore the functionality shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience,” the app notified some users.
It has been reported that for brief duration web services and apps do go down for services.
