What has happened to water tank in Okhla?

Old timers in Okhla still remember that more than fifteen years down the line like today there was no MCD water in the locality and to address the matter the then Delhi Government-led by Sheila Dikshit had installed several water tanks across Jamia Nagar.

As there were a few water plants in the locality, several residents used to rush to these water tanks to get potable drinking water. However, slowly with the passage of time these tanks started disappearing. Now, there are only two functional tanks in Abul Fazal Enclave. One is in D-block and the other functional one is at the entrance of AFE.

Residents still remember that how MCD water tanks used to arrive late night to fill these tanks with water that was used by local residents. The irony is that since long Jamia Nagar residents still continue to struggle to get potable pipe drinking water supply.

Okhla Head headquartered NGO that did a study about facilities provided in Muslim-dominated wards of Delhi observed that despite the water supply very near to Holy Family Hospital, it is strange that the Muslim-dominated area is deprive of MCD water.

In absence of supply, residents are forced to purchase water as boring water is only used for taking bath and other purposes. Also, over the years, several water plants have surfaced in the locality that pump water from underground and sell it in the locality.
