Good news: Water pipeline works to begin in parts of Okhla soon. Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra is to inaugurate laying of water pipelines and release water in 41 new colonies in 10 constituencies.
New water pipelines to be laid in 18 colonies and release of water in 23 colonies.
Delhi Jal Board laid water pipelines in 2015-16 by reaching 217 colonies. The DJB is on track to cover 300 new colonies with piped water supply in 2016-17. In Oklha, water pipeline work is to begin in Nai Basti, Noor Nagar, Zakir Nagar, H-Block, Badarpur and other parts of Delhi.
Water is major issue, as several parts of Okhla, including several colonies in Jamia Nagar, don’t have piped water. Following which many residents depend on private water providers. Residents are forced to spend more that Rs 1,000 on water monthly. It all depends on the size of the family and its use. The boring water in the locality is not healthy to drink, according to experts as it is heavy and contains materials that are harmful to health.
Many residents have put RO in their house so as to get purified water. Moreover, a few localities in Jamia Nagar where piped water comes is hit by late-night supply, according to residents.
“There is no doubt that laying of the water line would help residents, but it is important that water is delivered on time so that residents could benefit,” said housewife Rozy Khanam.
