More than five months of run of a wanted criminal, who was wanted in a robbery case at Jamia Nagar, came to an end today when he was arrested by police following a gun-battle at New Friends’ Colony in the wee hours on Wednesday, according to police.
It is understood that the 26-year-old man, who was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest, had committed a crime in February in Jamia Nagar and had allegedly opened fire at the guard of the house during a robbery incident, police said.
The man was allegedly involved in 14 cases of robbery, attempt to murder etc.
“At about 1.30am, two persons coming on a motorcycle Bajaj Pulsar from Zakir Nagar area tooka left turn to proceed towards Faridabad. Seeing the vehicle checking by police party, rider of the M/Cy took U-turn hurriedly in order to escape from the clutches of the police team. As a result, he lost control over motorcycle and both the persons fell down. Both the accused started running towards Zakir Nagar when chased by SI Yogesh, ASI Sukhbir and other police officials. Rider of the motorcycle took out his pistol and opened fire targeting the police party. The offender fired three rounds before he was apprehended,” said police.
A pistol and four live cartridges were also seized from his possession. Another man, Zahid, who was accompanying the accused, managed to flee, police said.
Upon interrogation, the accused told police that he studied up to2nd standard and due to bad company since childhood, he left the school and indulged in petty street offences.
