Expressing grief over the killing of NIA officer Mohd Tanzil Ahmad in UP’s Bijnor a day ago, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced an ex gratia of Rs 20 lakh to his family.
The NIA officer was attacked by two motorcycle-borne assailants in Bijnor while he was returning to Sahaspur from the wedding of his niece with his wife and two children. His wife was also injured in the incident while his two children, on the back seat of the car being driven by the deceased, were safe.
In the attack Tanzil died and his wife is critical, undergoing treatment in a hospital. It was on Sunday when Tanzil’s body was brought to Abul Fazal Enclave where he has been living for the last 15 years, according to residents.
The slain officer was buried in Batla House graveyard with thousands of residents turning up to pay last tributes. Local leaders too were present at the graveyard. During the last journey of the slain officer some residents were deeply upset as senior leaders were absent from the spot, claimed eyewitnesses.
The PTI reported that Ahmad, an assistant commandant with BSF and was currently on deputation in NIA.
