Unique initiative for book buffs at Jamia

Unique initiative for book buffs at Jamia Millia Islamia.

Usually in any university’s Departmental Fest, there are a number of exciting events like singing, dancing, debating, quiz competition, gaming, drama-plays and other department related activities which are indeed a fun for all, a report by Shubham Pandey.

Likely, Jamia Millia Islamia’s Economics Department’s two-day Fest ‘Ecocracy 17′ from 21st to 22nd March, 2017 also had these thrilling programmes lined-up, but one segment of the Fest which received a special attraction from book lovers was the ‘Book Donation Camp’ by the stall Hamara Book Bank, a unique initiative in which they were exchanging second-hand books of the visitors with any book of their wish in free of cost basis, irrespective of book’s condition and not even necessary to at least give a book in order to get a new one which they were giving.

On asking to the stall manager about this unparalleled idea seeking a lot of attention, he said this Non-Profit Organisation which is operated by Baba Ganga Ram Dham Bhakt Samiti, aims to borrow those books from the readers which they don’t require and distribute these collected books to those who are in need of them in which the whole process is done without charging a single penny from either of the parties with the sole motto of “Save Books, Save Trees, Save Environment and Spread Literacy” and in this way of sharing, books on various subjects are available to every reader.

The stall persons also appealed the students not to sell any of their old books to ragmen and insisted to donate them either in the stall or in their shop at Daryaganj in Old Delhi so that they can distribute to the ones who require the most.

Students were seen appreciating the steps taken by the group in collecting old books.
