The Delhi Cabinet, in its meeting on Wednesday, chaired by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal approved the proposal of the Urban Development Department to entrust the development works in unauthorised colonies to Irrigation and Flood Control Department in addition to the DSIIDC.
The Chief Minister had reviewed the developmental works in unauthorised colonies on August 25, where it had emerged that the work is in following stages:
i) Unauthorised colonies where the development works have been completed.
ii) Colonies where the works have been sanctioned and are in progress
iii) Colonies where the estimates are yet to be prepared, but colonies have been identified
iv) Colonies where work has not commenced
It was therefore felt that DSIIDC is the only executing agency for carrying out development works related to construction of roads and drains and there is a need to engage another agency in order to expedite developmental works in unauthorised colonies.
The Finance Department shall provide additional funds to the executing agencies for developmental works in unauthorised colonies.
Reacting to today’s development, Jawed Iqbal Khan said: “It is a good move. Let’s hope that things might improve in the locality as now only one agency has been given the task to execute work unlike earlier when several agencies were involved.”
