Missing toddler, uneasy calm in Okhla and Shahabuddin the hero

There was an uneasy calm in Jamia Nagar on Sunday over the missing toddler. It all started after a photo of the toddler surfaced in WhatsApp group of some residents.

Following which, several announcements too were made from the local mosque about the identification of the toddler.

It was only after more than five hours that the toddler was united with his parents, a resident of Abul Fazal Enclave.

And the credit for this goes to Shahabuddin, who works in Madina Nihari hotel. “It was at about 3:30 pm that I spotted the boy at the hotel. I suspected that something was fishy. After standing near the hotel, the boy, who was just able to walk, went ahead nearby an ATM. I was just watching his movement. I with some of my friends went there and brought him to the hotel. We tried to find out about his whereabouts but as he was very small may be 3-year-old he was unable to give specific information. He was also confused and looking for his parents.

“I made him sit in the hotel and took his photo and WhatsApped the message to many people. And this is how it started circulating. We also approached the mosque imam who in turn made an announcement about the toddler, asking the parents to come and pick up the boy. By 7:30 pm nobody came and by that time we also got call from local police. Minutes after the boy was taken by them the father arrived and he took the boy from there,” said Shahabuddin, who is from Bihar, but has been residing in Delhi for the last 27 years.

Shahabuddin said at the end we were happy that the boy was united.

The news of the boy going missing and his photo had literally gone viral on WhatsApp with many residents concerned about toddler’s whereabouts, said a resident.
