Three students of Jamia Millia Islamia made it to top 30 in the title best bebater of India held by Newslaundry and OML in partnership with Facebook.
The grand finale of the event called Newslaundry Speak Out was held on November 26, with Jamia student Fatima Syed Hussain wowing the judges and the audience with her debating abilities.
Initially, students from 20 colleges participated in the audition. And of them only 30 students, including Reem Qamar, Fatima Syed Hussain and Arshia Amin Choudhary, were chosen to be a part of the finale after a month-long selection process.
Members of Team Proposition – Zoheb Bedi (Ashoka University, Sonipat), Anmol Mittal (NLU, Delhi), Jibran Mansoor (Ashoka University, Delhi) – took the winner’s trophy home while Team Opposition – Sateja Paradkar (BITS Hyderabad), Fatima Syed Hussain (Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi) and Rohan Misra (Hindu College, New Delhi) – ended up with the runner’s up award.
The panel included Madhu Trehan (Editor-in-Chief, Newslaundry), Manvi Sinha Dhillon (Consulting Anchor, NDTV Profit) and Tanmay Bhat (AIB).
The news has been welcomed by Jamia alumni who said this shows the talent of Jamia students.
“We were really happy to see three students in the final. However, Fatima was brilliant as her team ended the runners’ up,” Jamia alumnus Naseemur Rahman told OKHLATIMES.COM.
