Like many people across India, several people in Okhla too got up early morning to make their way to nearby banks and ATMs in post demonetisation. Some were lucky to lay their hands on cash and others were sad and returned hand empty hand.
Long queues were seen across the locality with residents eagerly waiting for their turn. In NFC Community Centre there was chaos like situation outside ICICI bank with residents shouting that they have been deprived of cash after the bank officials announced that they were dry.
A TV reporter too was on the spot to cover the event and gauge residents’ mood. Security force was also upped at banks to make sure to avoid untoward incidents.
Though no fight took place, residents were seen deeply upset and at times agitated with tempers running high. Residents standing in queues for long time, some since early morning, were agitated when they were told that there is cash shortage. It was then that many were seen complaining to a reporter of a TV channel, requesting him to air the event.
Some even complained that the channels were not showing the right picture. A resident said nobody is showing that residents are harried as they are getting their money. People in the line had the same story to narrate. The asked only one question: when will the misery end?
