Police official Suhaib Ahmad Farooqui needs no introduction at least in Jamia Nagar.
Posted as Inspector at PS Jamia Nagar, he was a popular face in the sense he was ever willing to help the needy and was seen at Batla House chowk and other places manning traffic during Ramzan to make sure that devotees reach home hassle-free to break their fast.
Farooqui has been transferred to Chitranjan Park police station with the order dated May 24. It is understood that within days he will say goodbye to Jamia Nagar!
(SI of 1995 Batch), Delhi Police, Farooqui studied Chemistry at MJP Rohilkhand University Bareilly and went to MQ intermediate College, Seohara, District Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, and is known in the locality for community policing.
During his stay at Jamia, Farooqui was credited to cracking several cases with two cases being prominent one of rescuing a married man from Mewat victim of honey trap and cracking the NDMC officer murder case in Johri Farm with other officials within 24 hours.
“Down to earth and soft spoken, Farooqui through his community policing won residents’ trust over years. He was seen manning traffic in the locality during Ramzan. He played an active role in the Police-Public Library. We will miss him,” said Plasma director Rizwan Khan.
Besides policing, Frooqui is also known for his love for poetry.
Farooqui and his team won Rs 35,000 award for cracking the Zakir Nagar case and rescuing a resident from Mewat. The case goes back to 2015 when a resident of Tauba colony, Zakir Nagar, didn’t come back home raising concern among his family members.
Later he got a ransom call on his mobile number. On the basis of his written complaint a case u/s 364-A IPC was registered and investigation was taken up.
During course of investigation alleged mobile number from which ransom call was received put on surveillance and on the basis of surveillance location of victim mobile found in the area of Punhana, Mewat (HR).
Meanwhile the accused made a call and asked complainant to come Punhana Mode with money. A raiding party was prepared and a trap was laid and the accused got apprehended when he came to take money from complainant.
The complicated case was solved with under the leadership of Farooqui and the victim was freed from the clutches of criminals from the not-so-police-friendly region of Mewat.
Also, Farooqui and his team cracked Mohammad Moin Khan, an NDMC official, case. Khan was shot on his chest by some unknown assailants and he succumbed to his injuries at Holy Family Hospital during treatment. As no eye-witness was at hand, subsequently the case was registered at PS Jamia Nagar on DD Entry.
During the course of investigation, on the suspicion of the kin of the deceased one Ramesh Kakkar S/o Hare Ram Kakkar was arrested who disclosed that recovery suit of license fee of his hotel ‘The Connaught’ was pending in deceased’s office.
He had tried to win over the deceased by offering him bribe, but he had blatantly refused his offer.
During investigation six accused persons were arrested.
