‘Immeasurable’ suffering in Ramzan for Okhla residents. Okhlaiites are facing hardship this Ramzan with not only the weather being hot, but power cut and price rise of fruits. Several residents lamented that like every year this time around to prices of fruits have gone up. For many residents it is time to make profit, said residents, adding that in every corner you will find people selling fruits.
“There is nothing wrong in it. What is shocking is that they sell fruits at higher prices. And if you argue with them their answer is: We can’t do anything as fruits are coming expensive from mandis,” said Waris Mazhari.
Many residents said the price of chicken that had gone up during Shab-E-Barat continues to be static. Residents are buying chicken for Rs 200 and it is understood that the price will only come down after Eid. On the other hand shopkeepers argued that as nothing is in their hands they are helpless to sell fruits at higher prices than the normal days. However, many residents are convinced by such an argument and said the mandis in Okhla that is in the hands of Muslims do it purposefully and it is something that happens every year during Ramzan.
Many poor residents are even unable to purchase these expensive fruits for Iftar.
