Jamia students sit on indefinite hunger strike; know the reason

It was in the morning when some students started protest in the Humanities and Language Faculty of Jamia Millia Islamia. Ironically the protest coincided with the arrival of special guest Dr. Frank F. Islam and Syed Ali Rizvi who were on the campus to receive awards.

However, the protest had nothing to do with their arrival of these two guests as students said it was because of the pathetic condition of Turkish department. When asked why they were protesting, a protesting student shared a letter written to Jamia Vice Chancellor Professor Talat Ahmad on February 13, 2017 in which the students claimed to have raised the deplorable state of affairs, mismanagement and problems in the Turkish Language and Literature Programme.

OKHLAITMES.COM could not find out whether what action the authorities took on the issue.

In the letter the students wrote: “This is to bring to your kind notice that we, the student of Turkish Language & Literature Programme, Faculty of Humanities and Languages, are writing to you because of an unfortunate situation that has arisen in this department in the current semester.

“Firstly, we would like to highlight the deplorable state of affairs and mismanagement that is taking place in current semester since the removal of our former coordinator.”

In the letter that is in possession of OKHLATIMES.COM students have raised ten points. Also, the students have demanded of giving full status of department along with Master’s programme. Moreover, at the end they have added a rider writing that no action should be taken against any undersigned student and we undersigned students are going to sit on indefinite hunger strike till our above mentioned demand fulfilled.
