Students protest at Jamia against ‘RSS Iftar’

Protest has begun at Jamia a few minutes before the start of Iftar. Several students, including local leader Sarwar Iqbal Khan, is at the campus. Students are raising banners carrying message of Go Back.

Heavy security deployment has been made on the campus. In a press release student leader Meeran Haider wrote that students of Jamia strongly oppose the University administration decision to provide University space to Muslim Rashtriya Manch (a unit of RSS) for organising Iftar party on 5th of June where RSS office bearer Indresh Kumar is scheduled to be the chief guest.

There is a massive anger among the students of Jamia Millia Islamia against the Vice Chancellor of JMI who is also supposed to share space with Indresh Kumar.

“We, the students of JMI along with the University alumni are calling a protest in form of students supported Iftar programme. We will organise this Iftaar programme outside the sports complex as a sign of our protest and will also show black flag to Indresh Kumar and MRM Volunteers,” wrote the students in a release carrying names of Meeran and Imran Chaudhary, both students leader.

On Sunday Campus Front had also announced to march to Jamia to hold peaceful protest. However, it has been reported that they were stopped at Tikona Park. It is not known whether the students will be allowed to hold a peaceful Iftar close to the place where Iftar is going on.

Media persons were also seen in large number at campus.
