Students’ protest at Jamia over; detained students released

The students’ protest at Jamia Millia Islamia is over, said sources. Moreover, a few students, who were detailed following the protest, have been released.

Earlier, student leader Meeran Haider wrote that students of Jamia strongly oppose the University administration decision to provide University space to Muslim Rashtriya Manch (a unit of RSS) for organising Iftar party on 5th of June where RSS office bearer Indresh Kumar is scheduled to be the chief guest.

There is a massive anger among the students of Jamia against the Vice Chancellor of JMI who is also supposed to share space with Indresh Kumar, he wrote earlier.

Till the filing of the report, students were holding meeting to discuss their future course of action on the campus.

Heavy security deployment was made on the campus to avoid any incident.

A protest against the Iftar party was held by Campus Front also in Okhla. They were stopped at Tikona Park and not allowed to march to Jamia on Sunday.
