Why are these Jamia ‘students’ standing outside gate on Independence Day?

At about 5:45 pm, a few people were seen standing outside the gate of Jamia Millia Islamia with the national flags and singing patriotic songs. When asked: Why are you standing outside the gate? A youth said he is a student of Jamia Millia Islamia and is standing outside the gate as he and his friends were not allowed entry inside the gate to celebrate Independence Day.

“We had plans to celebrate Independence Day on the campus. But when we came here we were stopped by the guards. Hence we decided to celebrate it here singing patriotic songs,” said one youth, who too was standing at the gate with his friends and claimed to be a student of the university’s Law Faculty.

Some ten students were seen on the spot.

A security guard was seen making video of the event on his mobile with one student also grabbing the moment in his smartphone.

A senior official, who is not allowed to talk to the media following new university directive, said the students were given permission to hold the event on the campus but they preferred holding it outside the gate.

Usually youths without identity cards are only allowed to enter the campus.
