Students, Jamia employees join hands for July 17 protest on campus

It is Sunday, a holiday in Jamia Millia Islamia and students are not seen around on the campus. But not this Sunday as some students are seen getting ready for the July 17 protests on the campus when the university opens after summer vacation.

For the first time in many years students and university staff will come on one platform. Student leader Meeran Haider said students too have decided to join university staff in their protest.

Members of Jamia Teachers’ Association, Jamia School Teachers’ Association, Jamia Administrative Staff Association and Shafiqur Rehman Kidwai Association will wear black band to protest against mob-lynching , killing of innocents and Amarnath Yatris on Monday from 9:00 am onwards, said S M Mahmood, secretary, Jamia Teachers’ Association.

It is understood that the decision was taken after some criticized the JTA for sitting idle over the issue in a Yahoo group.
