Okhla residents, particularly children, are living in fear after reports surfaced in Jamia Nagar of stray dogs mauling two people, including a teenage girl. Stray dog menace is real in Okhla.
It was a few days ago when a girl went out for some work in the night and she was attacked by the stray dog, according to sources. A family friend of the victim girl said she was rushed to a local hospital where she got injection on Saturday.
Residents lamented that dogs are found everywhere in the locality and nothing is being done to get the issue of dog menace addressed at least in G, H block of Abul Fazal Enclave. “My 10-year-old son is scared and whenever he goes out he keeps an eye on stray dogs. I have told him to be careful. But after coming to know that his neighbour was mauled a few days ago he too is scared. The stray dogs are increasing and people are doing nothing,” said Rozy.
It is understood that before the teenager being attacked, a man too was bitten by stray dogs at night time in the same lane. Residents still remember how a small boy was killed stray dogs in Noor Nagar years ago. Then politicians and activists created hullaballoo with civic agencies too launched operation to catch stray dogs. However, after some days the movement frittered away and everybody forgot about it.
Whereas the fact of the matter is that dog menace continues to be a big issue in the locality. Shahzad Khan said he still remembers the night when dot had mauled him while he was returning from Jamia library after finishing his studies years ago. For many residents are convinced that nothing works in Jamia Nagar.
