Seminar on social media and political communication in Pune: The Pune Congress Party under the guidance of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee ( MPCC )Secretary Shehzad Poonawalla has organised a seminar entitled “ Social Media and Political Communication at Congress Bhavan,Shivajinagar, Pune on May 17 from 6 pm to 6.45pm.

At the seminar former union central minister and Current MP Shashi Tharoor along with political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla, would be addressing the party think tank and workers on the importance of social media and how it can be effectively used to garner public attention towards the work being done by the party at different levels in the society. The seminar will be attended by all the important functionaries of the party including top office bearers from the city and the state.

Elaborating on the seminar in detail, Shehzad Poonawalla said that social media has proved to be a game changer in the recently held polls in the country and is one of the most effective and potent tools in shaping public opinion for the strengthening of democratic institutions in the country. The party will leverage the power of social media at the hyperlocal level and ensure that a democratic space is recreated for the citizenry. The youngest secretary in the MPCC, Shehzad went on to add that proper training will be imparted to the party cadre for harnessing the immense potential of the social media.

Explaining further on the optimum usage of social media tools by the party, Tehseen Poonawalla said: “Taking into account the forthcoming municipal corporation elections, the party candidates will be actively using the digital media tools to reach their target demographic, generate support and emerge victorious by showcasing their work on ground. As the election draws nears, it’s quite evident that social media has become the ultimate game changer. Using the influence of social media has and will continue to improve the chances of winning the elections and boosting the party prospects in the near future,” he concluded.

This will be followed by a short interaction with the local press post 6:45pm.

Ramesh Bagwe, President, Pune Congress will preside over the programme. All office bearers of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee and its frontal organizations from Pune will be special invitees to the programme.
