First snatching case reported in Okhla metro, victim narrates incident

Metro in Okhla made news for the wrong reason with report surfacing that Okhla Vihar Metro that is actually located in Abul Fazal Enclave had its first case of theft which was reported on Monday. According to a report, the pickpocket targeted a foreigner who had come to meet his friend in Okhla.

It is to be noted that it was only a few days ago when the newly built Magenta Line of Delhi Metro was inaugurated by Narendra Modi. It has been reported that the robber succeeded in taking with him wallet and other personal documents of the person who had come from Noida.

Police said they come to know about the incident when the victim a Congo national informed them that his documents had been stolen.

“This was my first time on the Magenta Line. I didn’t even realise when the snatchers took away my wallet. It must have taken place when I was getting off the metro. I was going to a friend’s place for group studies. I immediately raised an alarm and informed the CRPF staff present at the station. They suggested that I get a complaint registered and directed me to the police station,” said victim Amel Natayel as TOI reported.

A case has been registered and teams have been formed to probe the matter. “We have detained a few usual suspects and are questioning them. CCTV footage from the station as well as the train compartment is being scanned to ascertain the sequence of events,” said a senior police officer, adding that all out efforts are being taken to prevent such incident from happening and that it was the first case of theft reported on the Magenta Line.
