On the Eve of 200th year (BiCentenary) Birth Anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the Founding Father of Aligarh Muslim university (AMU), Khudai Khidmatgar organised a dinner gathering with the Rag Pickers living in Delhi at Madhanpur JJ Colony slums. On this day the Alumni of AMU across the world organizes various events on 17th October every year.
The mission of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan is to empower the community by providing them with education, he was an Islamic reformist and philosopher of nineteenth century British India. Sir Syed is also counted among one of the makers of modern India. The Aligarh Muslim University grew out of the work of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, who in the aftermath of the Indian War of Independence of 1857 felt that it was important for Muslims to gain education and become involved in the public life and government services in India. In 1877, Sir Syed founded the Muhammadan Anglo Oriental College in Aligarh and patterned the college after Oxford and Cambridge universities that he had visited on a trip to England. It was one of the first purely residential educational institutions set up either by the government or the public in India.
Apart from Education services he involved in various social reform activities, united the hearts of the people,especially among Muslims and Hindus, stood for nations freedom with constructive ideas. Khudai Khidmatgar celebrated his Birth day to spread his message to the marginalised sections (Rag Pickers) whome were unaware of Sir Syed and feel that this action would give result of his mission.
During this Dinner gathering, a large number of Women, Children and Youths participated. The Children’s in the slums did literary and art performance showing their creativity, Women had discussions on the issues related to the education for their Children. We noticed while interaction with the parents, that several students dropped out from Schools due to lack of awareness and no education counselors reached them to make the informed the process and dates of getting enrolled in the schools. Khudai Khidmatgar assured them, the volunteers informed that they will organised such a gathering in the end of every week or omce in every 15 days, soon we will start a “Education and care Center” during evening time to the Children of Ragpicker.
Dr. Kahkashan, Assistant Professor from Hamdard Medical College, New Delhi invited as the Chief Guest for this event. Khudai Khidmatgar Leaders for the Rag Pickers group Rulima Khatoon, Azad Mian along with KK NLC Members Dr. Kush Kumar Singh, Inamul Hasan, NRC Members Rizwan Khan, Qamar Intekhab, Hasnain Beg, Sahil Ahmed, JMI Unit KK team members Sadik Noor, Suyash Tripathy, Ehtesham, Munzir, Mudasir and several others participated.
