Shuttlers make Jamia proud

Jamia Millia Islamia Badminton women Team enter the semi final of North Zone Inter university Badminton championship that is in progress at MDU, Rohtak, according to sources.

Moreover, the team has also qualified for the All India Interuniversity Championship. Jamia defeated Himachal Pardesh University, Shimla in straight set 2-0.Goury Asija, student of MLA English, won first single easily in the doubles.

Simrity and Vijeta won their matches, said sources.

It is not only in badminton that Jamia students have been excelling. Jamia has an excellent record of producing international hockey player who have played for the country with exemplary success. Over 30 players hitherto have represented the Indian National Hockey Team, 5 have been Olympians, 4 have captained the Indian National Hockey Team and 3 have received the coveted Arjuna Award.

Recently, two of its students had won three Gold Medals in Air Pistol and Air Rifle events in the World University Shooting Championship – 2016 in Bydgoszcs in Poland.

Akhil Sheoran won two Gold Medals, including one in individual capacity which has never been won by any Indian at this prestigious Championship. Arpit Goel won one Gold Medal.
A total of 28 countries participated in the event.

In another achievement for the university, its Basketball Team won Birla Open Sports Meet (BOSM) – 2016 Championship organised by Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), PILANI defeating Hindu College of Delhi University.
