Complete shutdown observed across Jamia Nagar

A complete shutdown was observed across Jamia Nagar today with shops in Batla House, Okhla Head and other places being close over arrest of Okhla AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan.

The MLA was arrested on July 24 from his house in Batla House after a Jasola woman alleged the she was threatened at MLA’s house an allegation that has been rubbished by AAP and the MLA.

After arrest Khan was presented at Saket Court where his bail plea was rejected. His bail plea was rejected on Monday also for the second time.

Since his arrest, Khan’s supporters have been protesting peacefully seeking his release.

On day one AAP workers picketed outside Jamia Nagar Police Station. Later on they shifted their protest at Sarita Vihar-Shaheen Bagh road.

It is understood that the shops and market place will be closed up till 4 pm, according to sources. Moreover, AAP workers and local leaders are waiting for the release of the arrested leader, who they claimed has been arrested illegally. The arrest had solicited sharp reactions from party leaders, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Some local residents were too taken aback at the development. In such a background it would be interesting to see whether his bail plea would be entertained today.
