A few days after Shaheen Bagh violence over salt price hike rumour in which several DTC buses were destroyed by protesters, a meeting between residents and Jamia Nagar police officials were held on November 13 at Shaheen Bagh, reports Maqsood Alam, a Congress leader who attended the meet.
In the meeting law and order situation was discussed. Also, residents, who participated in the meeting urged officials to indentify rumour mongers in the locality.
Besides, top officials assured the residents that violators would be checked. The issue of encroachment in Sabzi Mandi was also raised.
It was a few days ago when the rumour of salt price hike in the locality had triggered violent protest with demonstrators blocking Sarita Vihar-Kalindi Kunj road. Also, slogans were raised against implementation of demonitisation. Following the ruckus, police force was rushed to the spot to diffuse the situation. Later on protesters were shooed from the locality and normalcy returned.
Since the demonetisation, like other parts of the country, Okhla too has witnessed business slowing down and long queues at banks and ATMs. Many residents are facing hardship as they have been unable to exchange their money and take out money due to existing long queues. At Jamia, several senior Jamia teachers were seen standing in queue for long hours.
