What compelled some concerned Shaheen Bagh residents to visit Jamia Nagar police station today?

Some concerned Shaheen Bagh residents today turned up at Jamia Nagar police station to meet with the SHO to discuss burning issues of the locality, according to a resident.

It is understood that some residents are deeply upset with deteriorating law and order situation in the Muslim-dominate locality. Residents lamented that cases of firing, snatching, robbery and fighting between groups have become order of the day. Several complaints too have been filed.

What transpired in the meeting between the SHO and residents is not known. However, a resident who was present there said on the condition of anonymity that the response was positive with the police official informing the residents that he was more than willing to address the situation in the locality. Following which another meeting is to be expected between the two in near future.

Once a peaceful locality, Okhla in a few years has seen spurt in crime. It was only a few months ago when residents were shocked to know how NDMC officer MM Khan was gunned down in Johri Farm by motorbike miscreants. Later on the case was cracked with all accused being arrested. Besides, during Ramzan, former Okhla MLA Asif Md Khan had told the media that how some miscreants had fired in the air when he had gone to Zakir Nagar to find solution to a land dispute issue involving Amma. In that case arrest was made.

All told residents said strict action should be taken against those creating nuisance in the locality.
