A 22-year-old migrant labourer who was sustained life-threatening injuries in Shaheen Bagh high-tension cable incident is reported to have succumbed to his injuries, said police. He was burned after getting into contact with a 220 kV power line in Shaheen Bagh area on Saturday. In total two labourers were hurt with one being killed on the spot and Irshad, who is a native of West Bengal, has died.
Both the men were fitting tiles at the first floor of the construction building over which the high-tension wire passed by, official said. A criminal case of negligence has been registered at the Jamia Nagar Police Station.
“The very fact that two labourers were working in a balcony almost below the power line reflects utter violation of regulation. The matter has been taken up with civic bodies several times,” the transco
official told PTI.
Such incidents are not new in the locality. A few other incidents have taken place earlier too.
Moreover, many residents too have received notices to remove their houses located under high tension wire. However, residents lamented that it is not feasible and hence some have been demanding for the relocation of the high tension wire. A meeting too was held where residents discussed the issue and tried to find out solution to the burning issue.
