Security stepped up on Jamia campus; do you know the reason?

The presence of a large number of police force on Jamia Millia Islamia campus on Tuesday left some university officials, students and passersby stumped.

They were wondering why of a sudden security was beefed up on the campus.

Usually, security force is only seen when there are some rallies and students’ protest. But with nothing like this taking place on a peaceful campus, many were taken aback with presence of police in large number outside the campus on the road.

Everybody talked about it but many had no idea what was going on; some thought that some top level Ministers were to come to the campus.

When asked, a senior university official said police were not on the campus but outside on the road. Fine, has something gone wrong or is some VVIP coming today?

To this, the senior official said most probably security has been stepped up as a seminar on woman equality is being held.

When pointed out that such seminars are held on and off on the campus and no security is found then why today.

The official said an organisation by name FANS is holding a seminar on woman equality.

OT.COM could not find out about the event but a student said a seminar is being held.

What is FANS? Its full form is Forum for awareness of national security.

He pointed out that the same body had planned to hold a debate on social relevance of triple talaq discrimination and empowerment on February 16 at Faculty of Engineering and Technology, but the event was postponed for reasons only best known to the authorities.

The buzz on the campus is that the orgnisation is holding the event with new speakers. What was discussed in the seminar is not known.

OT.COM could not get official confirmation.
