Security beefed up in Jamia Nagar

Security beefed up in Jamia Nagar on Monday as large number of police landed in the locality to dismantle alleged illegal construction on government land in front of Jamia Millia Islamia.

It was noticed that a few eateries had surfaced on the vacant land just a few metres from Jamia’s Noam Chomsky centre where the metro is coming up.

Residents pointed out that security was beefed up in the locality since morning with local police too turning up to avoid any untoward incidents. The buzz in the locality is that the land has been occupied for providing parking space by the metro, a claim that OT.COM was not able to verify independently.

A few months ago another Jamia land allegedly occupied by some people was vacated with heavy security force deployment then. Jamia being a sensitive area, police took no chance and stepped up security in case if some locals protested over the issue. However, no protest was held by local leaders or political aspirants with the operation being peaceful, said sources.

After accomplishing the task, police left the locality with a few stuff left on the spot. A newly built eatery FKC was also demolished with residents left stumped. The eatery had come up on the land only a few months ago attracting residents attention.

Officials could not be reached for their comment.
