The support base of former AMU leader Sarwar Iqbal Khan, who is JDU candidate from Okhla’s ward number 102S Abul Fazal, is increasing, according to his election campaigner TM Ziaul Haque.
As the campaign for the April 23 MCD polls gets electrifying Sarwar got support from candidate with Muslim Md sitting in his support and Congress leader Shabana Iqbal Khan’s husband Iqbal Khan backing his candidature, said Haque.
“Iqbal and Muslim are supporting Sarwar’s candidature. It was only a few days ago when Muslim, who was a Left candidate, agreed not to contest and back Sarwar, who is formerly Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student leader. Moreover, the leader got another success when Shabana’s husband also agreed to support him in the upcoming election,” said Haque.
Iqbal Khan told OT.COM that he is supporting Sarwar in his personal capacity and this has nothing to do with his wife who is a Congress leader and has an independent stand.
With only a few days left, leaders are doing all they could to win hearts and minds of voters. Like other political aspirants, Sarwar’s team has launched door-to-door campaign. It was only recently when Sarwar’s supporters took out a bike rally in the locality drumming up support for him, said his fans.
Basically from Bihar’s Gaya, Sarwar is making political debut from this ward for the first time and has assured residents that if voted to power he would work for the development of the locality.
