Okhla is a Muslim dominated locality inhabited by intellectuals, journalists, doctors, engineers, finance professionals and university professors.
However, when it comes to politics the area is represented by school dropouts. But things appear to change in this MCD polls and case in point is local leader Sarwar Iqbal Khan, who is all ready to take a political plunge in local politics.
An MBA graduate from LN Mishra institute, who also studied at Alighar Muslim University, 41-year-old Khan is a man of impeccable credentials with a vision for an honest politics, reports Shahid Anwar Hussain.
“His foray in students’ political and social activism began at AMU. As a fire brand leader with a revolutionary bent of mind, he led many agitations in and around the university for the welfare of students and espoused their genuine causes. His stint at the university paved the way for changes in the university policies and implementation procedures keeping the paramount interests and welfare of students.
“After University, he came to Delhi and settled here. In Delhi, he made a mark by taking keen interest in espousing the cause of the have-nots and downtrodden and strived for parity and social movement. He fights relentless against vested interests and other ills that plague our society. He with his peers and well wishers established Sarwar Iqbal Khan Empowerment Trust for the welfare and empowerment of people. To help the students, he regularly organized free coaching and tutorial classes,” said his close associate.
His mission is all round development of Muslim backwardness – Social, Economical, Educational and Political. He abhors politics of opportunism and self aggrandizement. His mission is to fight for education, fight for social justice and fight for women empowerment.
Political and Social Activism:
Ø Associated with LOK JANSHAKTY PARTY as National General Secretary of youth wing (YUVA LOK JANSHAKTI PARTY).
As part of core team of YUVA LOK JANSHAKTI PARTY; Organized National Level youth program in the fields of empowerment of youths, right to education and awareness program for correction of policies and implementation flaws in the portals of learning.
Ø As student activist, rampant corruption in the portals of learning evoked resentment thereby espoused the cause for just, fair and equitable participation of Students in University / Universities decision making bodies.
Ø Fought for students cause and rights in Aligarh Muslim University students’ community for continuous eight years.
Ø Continued to work for the welfare of AMU students’ even as Ex-Student from Delhi.
Ø With my little resources and contributions from my well wishers, I manage and run Sarwar Iqbal Khan Empowerment Trust. I organize and impart free education to have-nots. Regularly organize Free Coaching Classes for Board Exams 10th & 12th
Ø Regularly organize Free Coaching Classes for B.Ed, ETE, Mass Communication, Hotel Management, et al.
Ø Contributing my social services for the people of my home state particularly working for the down trodden and poor people of my area and always take cudgels against civic issues, women empowerment and social justice.
Ø I always raised my voice against corruption and social stigma through public meetings and media and devote myself for public life for their just cause.
Agitation and Welfare Issues:
Ø Raised the protest march of 10000 students before Sonia Gandhi at A.M.U. Aligarh on 13 December 2003 demanding for conducting Students Union election. Reported by The Hindu, Dainik Jagran, Amar Ujala. Rashtriya Sahara, Qaumi Awaz etc.
Ø Led the protest march against Kargil intrusion at Pakistan Embassy 1999 under the banner of SIR SYED SENA, The effigy of Nawaz Sharif was burnt and a memorandum demanding evacuation of Pak Soldiers from Kargil, was handed over to Pakistan’s ambassador. Ø Organized a warm reception to Honourable Minister of State for Railways Mr. Digvijay Singh at Aligarh Railway Station with thousands of Aligarh Muslim University students, wherein handed over a memorandum requesting a Train Booking Counter at A M U campus. Ø Led an agitation demanding revocation of expulsion of myself on frivolous ground. This expulsion from university rolls on flimsy ground was widely reported by Dainik Jagran, Amar Ujala.
Ø Lead a massive protest and did Chakka Jam on 23rd March, 2016 at Shaheen Bagh connecting Sarita Vihar for illegal picking up of two students at midnight on terror charge by Delhi Police Special Cell from their rooms in Abul Fazal Enclave. Our fight for justice proved fruitful. Delhi Police handed over the two students to us after 8 hours of Chakka Jam.
Ø Regularly organize agitation on the issues of frequent power cuts, uncleanliness and encroachment of roads and massive jam.
Ø Lead a massive protest on the issue of Rohit Vemula and Najeeb in Okhla and Jantar Mantar.
