Rumours that there will be shortage of salt in Delhi and its price will go up forced some people in Okhla and other parts of Delhi, including Trans-Yamuna area, to come out of their homes.
In Okhla, the rumour triggered a protest in Shaheen Bagh with harried residents blocking the Sarita Vihar Road. However, the protesters were chased from the spot after police arrived, said Jawad, a resident of Jamia Nagar.
He said residents of Shaheen Bagh were deeply upset after words spread in the locality that salt was being sold at a higher price. He said, however, as he couldn’t verify the development it turned out to be nothing but a rumour.
A housewife said she heard a few women talking that there will be shortage of salt and hence it should be bought. However, she said nothing like this ever existed and it was just a rumour. What has left many stumped in the locality that how merely on a rumour a blockade of road began. Some feel that residents upset by notes demonetization and being forced to stand in long queues must be stressed out.
Till the filing of there was no protest in the locality and several residents have started to understand that the report of salt going out of stock was nothing but a rumour.
