13-year-old Saddam killed, one hurt in road accident at Okhla

Two boys had gone to attend a birthday party of their friend. They had no idea what lay ahead as the bike one boy was riding on was crushed by a speeding truck in Okhla on Sunday morning.

The victim identified as Sadam Hussain, 13, died on the spot and his friend 18-year-old Trilok sustained life-threatening injuries and undergoing treatment.

Police officers said both the boys weren’t wearing helmets, as TOI reported. It is understood that after the incident on the HDFC Bank Road in Okhla at about 5.45 am, a passerby called police that turned up at the spot and rushed the injured boys to AIIMS Trauma Centre. Saddam was declared brought dead, reported HT.

The boys are students of a government school in the locality. Police reported that Trilok, who received head injuries with several fractures, has been admitted to the ICU. The errant driver identified as Raju, who was trying to flee after the incident, has been arrested.

Police are scanning CCTV footage to ascertain the sequence of events. The family members were handed over Hussain’s body after an autopsy.

The incident left several residents shocked. Moreover, the accident also highlighted the speeding driving menace on Delhi roads.
