Why is there a rush for riding Samajwadi cycle in Okhla?

Since Samajwadi Party has donated a land for graveyard in Okhla’s Abul Fazal Enclave, the common feeling in the locality is that whoever gets a SP ticket from 1002S ward will win hands down. And hence there is a huge rush of political aspirants to get Samajwadi Party ticket from here for the upcoming MCD polls, according to insiders.

Officially this could not be established.

With this seat not being a woman reserved chances are that the sitting councillor might find it difficult to get a ticket from SP, said a source on the condition of anonymity.

A SP sympathizer said the party should be voted to power from this ward because of the great gift that the Akhilesh Yadav Government has given to this locality in the shape of land for graveyard.

It is not known how many people are eyeing the ticket, but according to insiders, the number is really high than the last year.

For years, graveyard has been a big issue in the locality with many politicians in the past raising the issue. Residents still remember how one politician had tried to occupy this land to convert it into a graveyard. He could not succeed as security was beefed up.

There is only one graveyard in Batla Hosue and with population explosion and space getting cluttered there was need for a graveyard and residents have welcomed the move. It would be interesting to see whether would be SP candidate could translate this sympathy into votes and sail through? It is too early to jump to any conclusion.
