‘RSS Iftar’ at Jamia: 6 Jamia students detained, according to sources.
Some six students have been detained in the protest that took place at Jamia Millia Islamia against an Iftar party. A student Shoeb said he and his other friends have been taken to a police station and detained.
A Jamia girl student said six students, who were trying to go near to the Iftar venue, were detained. It is understood that students were kept a few metres from the Iftar venue when they turned up for protest. Till the filing of the report, the protest was continuing far from the Iftar venue. Earlier, student leader Meeran Haider wrote that students of Jamia strongly oppose the University administration decision to provide University space to Muslim Rashtriya Manch (a unit of RSS) for organising Iftar party on 5th of June where RSS office bearer Indresh Kumar is scheduled to be the chief guest.
There is a massive anger among the students of Jamia Millia Islamia against the Vice Chancellor of JMI who is also supposed to share space with Indresh Kumar.
Okhla youth leader Sarwar Iqbal Khan and others too reached the spot to protest peacefully. Heavy security deployment was made on the campus following the protest.
