Those who thought that the storm raised by the June 5 RSS Iftar on the campus has settled down then here comes another report that students are yet to give up as some among them have planned to gherao V-C office on June 8 at 12 pm.
The protest has been called after a meeting was held today in which DISSC, AISA, Jamia Students Forum (JSF), Campus Front of India (CFI) and individual political activists were present, said a source.
Students said they are still upset over “heavy deployment of police, lathicharge and detention of Jamia students protesting against Iftar of Indresh Kumar”. Police had denied the lathicharge allegation.
Moreover, a student said on the condition of anonymity they would only end their protest after getting apology letter from the authorities and assurance from their side that controversial personalities are not invited on the campus.
On that day itself students had organised protest on the campus and in an earlier press release they had said students of JMI strongly oppose the university administration decision to provide university space to Muslim Rashtriya Manch (a unit of RSS) for organising Iftar party on June 5 where RSS office bearer Indresh Kumar is scheduled to be the chief guest. “There is a massive anger among the students of Jamia against the Vice Chancellor of JMI who is also supposed to share space with Indresh Kumar…,” said the release.
As the protest raged on June 5, the V-C decided not to attend the Iftar party held at Jamia’s Sports Complex.
