Following the June 5 protest at Jamia Millia Islamia against the MRM leader Indresh Kumar’s Iftar Party on the campus, a few days after the students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students in solidarity with Jamia students took out a peaceful rally.
AMU student and activist, Amir Mintoee who was one of the organisers of the protest, said: “This was not just about an Iftar party. The Government is planning to saffronize the two major centres of higher learning among Indian Muslims. It happened in Jamia, AMU is sure to be the next venue.”
Aqdas Sami, one of the protesters and student activist from Jamia, said: “We are happy that AMU stood in solidarity with Jamia. These are very hard times and people need to stand for people”.
Ateeb Khan, another activist from Jamia, said it’s the time that we should unite against dividing forces.
Imran Chaudhary, an activist from Jamia, welcomed this initiative of AMU students and hoped that this unity continues.
Salim Umar, Safoora Zargar, Manzar Imam Naqi Mohammad, Juber choudhary from Jamia also joined the protest.
Kunwar Mohd Ahmad, Arif Khan, Faisal Nadeem, Salman Qamar, Mughal Faizan, AMUSU vice president and secretary Nadeem Ansari & Nabeel Usmani along with Imran Khan, Mashqoor Ahmad Usmani, Mudabbir Ali chaudhary were some AMU students who were present in the protest.
