Foundation stone for ‘Rs 8 cr’ extension of JIH mosque laid

JIH Ameer Jalaluddin Umari laid the foundation stone of Rs 8 crore mosque extension plan located on its sprawling premises in Okhla on Friday. The event took place after the Friday prayer, according to eyewitnesses, who said before getting down to the laying ceremony the octogenarian Ameer addressed the devotees who had turned up to offer Friday prayer.

According to sources, the building is being expanded to adjust more devotees during festivals and in the rainy season. During the Friday sermon, a speaker laid a lot of emphasis on the building of mosque. However, he didn’t enlighten the devotees on the issue of spending such huge money on constructing mosque which these days have become a norm at a time when mosque imams continue to be forced to survive on meager salaries across the country.

After the prayer was offered, devotees were requested to stay as the Ameer would address them and after which lay the foundation stone of the mosque. Eyewitnesses said many left for their homes with some staying over to witness the stone-laying ceremony.

Work for this mosque had begin as reported by the portal a few days ago with small houses located on the JIH campus being dismantled making way for the expansion of the mosque. Officially nobody is talking on how much money is to be spent but sources said something between Rs 6 to Rs 8 crore.

A regular devotee at the mosque said chances are the costs of the mosque could go up as the building is to be constructed in phase wise.
