Shameful but true: Robbery in Okhla mosques. Desperation or distance from deen? Community has to find an answer. A few incidents of robberies in two mosques of Jamia Nagar have left residents deeply shocked.
In one incident a tap for wazu khana was stolen and in another known incident the robbers went away with a small tunkey put on the first floor of a local mosque.
“It is a shocking incident. But there is need to find out why such things are happening. To me there is so much poverty that deen comes after. There is no community effort to look after financially weaker section and this is also the root cause for moral turpitude. Religious organizations need to find out ways to address the problem of underprivileged section of society,” said Waris Mazhari, Islamic scholar and resident of Jamia Nagar.
Another resident of the condition of anonymity said this is not the norm in the locality and it could be an aberration. “Usually there are a few drug addicts who move around looking for easy target. And in these two cases it appears to be handiwork of drug addicts only. They sell the item and buy powder or may be other thing to inhale,” he said.
