4 of Zaidi family killed as dumper hits car in NH-24

It was on Tuesday night when the Zaidi family had taken journey from their hometown on their car to Delhi airport to pick up their relatives coming from Iran. Everything was fine until their return to Meerut via the National Highway 24.

But, it was in East Delhi’s Kalyanpuri when their car met with an accident most probably at 3 am on Wednesday in which four members of the Zaidi family were killed and four got injured.

The car’s driver too died on the spot when a bumper coming from the other side of the road hit the divider, breaking the road and hitting the car that turned thrice before halting.

By the time nine people travelling on the Innova were taken out it was too late as four had died. And four hurt people were rushed to a hospital for treatment. Of them one is critical and three have been released after getting initial treatment.

“It is possible the driver fell asleep. He escaped from the accident spot, but we hope to nab him soon,” deputy commissioner of police (east) Omvir Singh said.

The dead have been identified as 55-year-old Qamar Abbas Zaidi, his wife Anjum Fathima Zaidi, 50, son Azhar Abbas Zaidi, 18, daughter Juhi Fathima, 14, and the 33-year-old driver Mehraj. Among the injured are three children, including Zaidi’s 13-year-old son Abbas, and a woman, the DCP said.
