Residents anger spills over in Shaheen Bagh. Despite blazing heat many residents participated in a meeting called by locals in Dolphin on Sunday at about 4:00 pm against the illegal construction on a park carved by narrowing a wide road in Shaheen Bagh.
Agitated residents were seen dismantling and shooing away labourers involved in laying the foundation of the structure, according to eyewitnesses.
Residents, who were on the site, told OKHLATIMES that how some agitated residents started throwing away bricks and other construction materials from the spot. Police too landed on the spot. Some residents, including Congress leaders, shouted and wanted to know on whose permission the structure foundation was being laid. Later on the issue was resolved with assurance that no further construction would take place.
Tension has been brewing in the locality since the road was narrowed to build a unique park in the locality with several activists, including Pervez Mohammad, opposing it.
“A few days ago some AAP members had raised the issue with the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejrwial. And when the CM came to Johri Farm a few days ago to meet family members of M Moin Khan, Estate Officer, who was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Johri Farm, he had called Pervez and other AAP activists who are not happy with the functioning of AAP MLA. However, Pervez was not allowed to meet the CM as the MLA objected to it. In a few days time a meeting is to be held and the CM has assured them that no park is to be build,” said party insider on the condition of anonymity.
However, OKHLATIMES was not able to authenticate the development with the opposition AAP group claiming that Pervez was forced to leave the spot allegation that has been rubbished by Pervez Mohammad.
“This is wrong. I was there. Yes I was not allowed to meet the CM on the ground that I would create ruckus. I have always been organising AAP event in the locality. The MLA did his best to stop me,” he told OKHLATIMES.
Rubbishing the allegation, MLA Khan told OKHLATIMES nothing like this happened. “It is for security to decide who should meet or not. He has been opposing Kejriwal for some time and creating hurdles in development work in the locality.”
On the park and construction in Shaheen Bagh, the MLA said: “A BSES complaint centre is being built on that spot and there is nothing wrong. There are many transformers parked on the road. And it is being done by Metro.”
