A condolence meeting will be held on May 20, 2017 at 6.30 pm in the Engineering Faculty Auditorium of Jamia Millia Islamia to pay homage to Qamar Alam, former president of Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union who died on April 29, 2017.
A resident of Okhla, he was associated with Congress Party. He was an iconic figure among the alumni of AMU and recognised by many, wrote Qamar Alam’s brother-in-law Imdadullah Jauhar.
It was a few days ago (on April 15) when he was rushed to a local hospital after suffering heart attack. On that night, rumours spread in the locality like wild fire of his passing away.
But he survived the attack and was admitted in ICU for further treatment. As MCD elections were going on in those days, several local leaders and political aspirants too had rushed to hospital to see him.
Despite doctors doing their best to revive him, he died and was buried in Abul Fazal Enclave graveyard where a large number of his fans and locals turned up to pay their last tributes.
Moreover, his death was mourned by AMU alumni spread across the globe on the social media with many remembering him.
Basically from Darbhanga, Qamar Alam, who was 63 years old during the time of his death, travelled to Delhi years ago.
He contested elections from Darbhanga on Congress ticket twice, by contesting for the first time in 1990. But he failed to sail through in both these elections.
He is survived by his wife, four sons and daughter.
