Urdu on verge of death! Recruitment of Urdu teachers stopped in Delhi? In an RTI reply from Directorate of Education, (Delhi Government) some shocking truth has been revealed, Sharib Hasan, a Zakir Nagar resident told OKHLATIMES.
1) Total no of Urdu teachers in Delhi are 105 (91 TGT and 14 PGT). 2) No recruitment of any Urdu teachers in the last two Years.
Total number of Urdu learning students is 35000 and teacher is 105. Student (Pupil)-Teacher ratio (PTR) is 333:1, 1 Teacher per 333 Students, said Sharib Hasan, a Zakir Nagar resident.
“Whereas as per Right to Education Act recommendation PTR (Pupil-Teacher Ratio) for Primary classes should be 30:1 and Secondary classes should be 35:1. At one end Delhi Government is promoting Punjabi Language by making it mandatory in all Governments schools and on other end neglecting Urdu language and not following recommendation of Right to Education Act. Urdu officially second language of Delhi is being ignored,” Sharib told OKHLATIMES.
The portal was not able to speak to any official to get their version.
For long the issue of recruitment of Urdu teachers has been at the centre of attraction with community leaders and activists demanding a right treatment to the language. Even in Okhla, a Muslim-dominated locality, the language doesn’t get the right treatment as many signboards don’t have information in Urdu.
