The prestigious Meenakshi Mukherjee Memorial Prize 2017 for the best scholarly essay by a member published in the year 2016-2017 was bagged by Shailendra Kumar Singh, Research Scholar in the Department of English, Jamia Millia Islamia.
It was presented to him at the Annual Conference of Indian Association of Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies held at IIT Guwahati, from 15th to 17th February 2017.
The paper was titled: ‘Premchand’s Prose of CounterInsurgency in Colonial North India’, published in the international journal, South Asia: Journal of South Asian Studies (Taylor and Francis), Vol. 39, Issue 1.
The selection process for M M Prize is done through blind review of all the entries by 3 jury members, from India and abroad, unknown to each other. The prize carries a cash component of Rs. 10,000, a certificate, and a citation. The awardee is provided with hospitalities and air fare to the venue of the annual conference of the association where s/he is facilitated.
For the award-winning paper, Shailendra Singh worked in close consultation with Prof M Asaduddin, Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Language.
