Protest at Jamia Nagar police station over arrest of Okhla MLA Khan. As the news of arrest of Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan’s arrest spread like wildfire in the locality, protest has erupted outside Jamia Nagar police station amid high security with AAP workers turning up, demanding the knowledge of whereabouts of their leader arrested for allegedly threatening a Jasola-based woman resident, according to sources.
The picketing outside the police station triggered traffic snarl with commuters getting stuck for long time. The MLA was arrested after Jasola woman resident filed complaint that she was threatened at MLA house an allegation refuted by the MLA in a press meet held on Saturday.
The MLA was picked up from his house in the morning, according to Amanatullah supporters. Security was beefed up in the locality to avoid any untoward incidents. Till the filing of this report, the protest has been shifted from Okhla Head to Sarita Vihar-Shaheen Bagh Road.
AAP supporters and leaders continue to demand the release of their leader, the MLA. After the arrest police issued a statement. “We have arrested the legislator on Sunday morning as the complainant again informed the police that he was threatening her and also trying to manipulate the evidences. We will produce him in court on Sunday,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Rajeev Ranjan told reporters.
AAP leaders, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted on the incident.
