Power theft: Jamia Nagar woman sent to jail, Rs 11.3 lakh fine imposed

Power theft: Jamia Nagar woman sent to jail, Rs 11.3 lakh fine imposed.

Power theft can land you in travel. In the latest development of power thefts complaint lodged by private discom BSES, a special court of electricity has sent six people to jail and imposed penalties of over Rs 30 lakh on them.

Of them, one person is from Jamia Nagar. A registered consumer, the woman has been convicted by the Saket court. The woman has been sentenced to three months rigorous imprisonment. Also, the court has imposed a penalty of Rs 11.3 lakh on her by the additional sessions judge of the court, the spokesperson said.

It is reported that a co-accused died during the course of trail. They were found to be running commercial activities.

Besides, five other individuals have been penalized from across the national Capital. They have also been penalised with fine and civic liability totaling over Rs 30 lakh, a BSES spokesperson said as reported by PTI.

Power theft to the tune of over 29 KW has been found by a BSES inspection.

The discom has been running campaign to control power theft in several parts of the city. Three residents of Central Delhi were also sent to jail for power theft.
