Power struggle for Shaheen Bagh residents as mercury soars

Power struggle for Shaheen Bagh residents as mercury soars.

Residents in Shaheen Bagh are lamenting that they are faced with power cuts. “No power in C Block Shaheen Bagh for last two hours. Every day 8-10 hours power cut. Is this new formula discovered for reducing the electricity bill?,” wrote Syed Ali, a Shaheen Bagh resident in the morning in local social media groups.

He was not alone to complain over the issue. Another resident also wrote about power cuts in the locality and the power struggle they are facing.

With temperature soaring, it is expected that power consumption would peak and there are fears among residents that if the situation prevails then the situation of power might deteriorate further in the locality.

Moreover, the worst hit during power cut is people who don’t have installed inverter in their houses. There are many in the locality who said even inverter can be run for a certain period as it too needs charging. Last year too residents had battled power cut in the locality. However, to address the situation several transformers were parked in the locality.

In Abul Fazal Encalve the old power house got a face lift and new transformers put. Also, before the start of the summer season, discoms had made claims that they were ready with measures to tackle the situation arising from peak power consumption.
